UNIT OBJECTIVE
At the completion of this unit, you will be able to determine how a meter movement can be used
as an ammeter, an ohmmeter, or a voltmeter.
UNIT FUNDAMENTALS
One type of meter is the VOM (Volt-Ohm-Milliampere) meter. It is an analog meter because
electrical values are continuously displayed on the scale of the meter by the pointer.
Another type of meter is the digital multimeter (DMM). This meter uses analog circuits to
measure the electrical quantities of voltage, resistance, and current, but the results are displayed
on the face of the meter numerically rather than with a pointer.
