This chapter presented an overview of Management Data Warehouse and how to confi gure
it. Management Data Warehouse helps collect and analyze resource utilization, activity,
and trends on your server. MDW makes it easy to quickly identify server performance issues
with minimal confi guration efforts.You can create custom data collectors to capture important metrics, such as index fragmen-
tation levels, and schedule them to run at different intervals during the day. The collec-
tion of these data may allow database administrators to see trends in fragmentation levels
