  1. Click Edit.

  2. In the Connection Properties window, type in the server name where your copy of
    AdventureworksDW is located.

  3. Supply the credentials needed to connect to the server (Windows Authentication or
    SQL Server user and password).

  4. From the drop-down menu for the database, select AdventureworksDW.

  5. Click OK to fi nish confi guring the Connection.

  6. Returning to the Report Wizard, click the box to make this a Shared Data Source.

  7. Click Next.

  8. In the Query window, paste the query from your query editor:
    SELECT dsr.ResellerName , dsr.Phone
    ,dsr.AddressLine1, dsr.AddressLine2, dg.City,
    dg.StateProvinceCode , dg.EnglishCountryRegionName ,
    dsr.AnnualSales
    FROM DimReseller dsr
    JOIN DimGeography dg ON dsr.GeographyKey = dg.GeographyKey

  9. To choose the report type, click Next.

  10. Leave the radio button beside Tabular selected, and click Next.

  11. To move fi elds from the Available Fields section to the report, click the Details but-
    ton for every fi eld until all fi elds have been moved to the Detail section. Click Next.

  12. Select Corporate as a color scheme.

  13. Name the report Reseller Contact, and click Finish.

  14. Click the Preview tab to view the report.


Exploring the Report Designer


Now that you have a report created inside the Report Designer, it is a good time to take a
look around to become familiar with this environment.

The Design Surface
Figure 55-3 shows the Report Designer with the report you just created open in Design
mode. When working with Reporting Services, you see many toolbars at the top of the
screen. These can prove useful as shortcuts when formatting the report. For instance, there
is a button for background color that you easily can use instead of using the properties box
for a row. The area in the middle of the screen is the confi gurable portion of the report and
is referred to as the design surface. Here you can drag items onto the report and format the
report objects. To toggle between Design view and preview, click the Preview and Design
tabs to the top left of the design surface.
