Chapter 27: Database Mirroring

27

  1. On the Service Accounts page type the service accounts for all the SQL Server
instances (principal, mirror, and witness). After you specify the service accounts,
logins are created for each account, if necessary, and will be granted connect per-
mission on the endpoints. You do not need to create the logins if all the SQL Server
instances use the same domain account or if you use certifi cate-based authentica-
tion. Similarly, if all the SQL Server instances are in a workgroup and all the SQL
Server service accounts use the same login and password, you do not need to create
the logins and can leave the fi elds empty on this page.

  2. On the Complete the Wizard page, verify the choices made in the wizard, and click
    Finish.

  3. On the Confi guring Endpoints page, review the status of each endpoint. A success-
ful confi guration of the endpoints is shown in Figure 27-6. Click Close to exit the
Confi gure Database Mirroring Security Wizard.

  1. On the Database Properties dialog, as shown in Figure 27-7, do not select anything
and leave it displayed. Before you start mirroring, verify that the mirror database
is up-to-date. If required, take a full backup of the database and a transaction
log backup of the principal database and restore it on the mirror database
with norecovery. After the transaction log is restored, return to the Database
Properties dialog box (Figure 27-7) and click the Start Mirroring button. You see a
page similar to Figure 27-8. Click OK to exit.
