The blues scale is a combination of the major scale and the blues notes. So, the blues scale is scale tones 1-2-
b3-3-4-b5-5-6-b7.
Here is the blues scale in the key of C.
The Pentatonic Scale
The pentatonic scale is a five-note scale derived from the major scale. It uses the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th
steps of the major scale.
Playing Tip
Play all of these scales every day for a
couple of weeks and you will have the finger
patterns in your muscle memory ready to
use in a real playing or soloing situation.
