o far in this book, the maxim of “build strength to
build size” has been promoted. is is, however, a
 maxim. ough it has great practical
value for most of the training of most people, the maxim
does not apply in all cases at all times—depending on
the individual, set-rep format used, current training
experience and development, and other factors. Some
methods of building strength do not, at least in some
cases, build much if any size. e “build strength to
build size” simplification may need to be modified,
depending on the individual. is chapter describes
interpretations of abbreviated training that should be
tried if you find that required gains in muscular size do
not accompany strength gains—assuming, of course,
you want to build more size.
