It’s not just me—any critic on the left is going to have to face
that. If you don’t footnote every word, you’re not giving sources—
you’re lying. If you do footnote every word, you’re a ridiculous
pedant. There are lots of devices in relatively free societies to
achieve the goals that Orwell described.
