Ecuador has mercifully been spared the horrors of mass budget tourism, and is a destination of choice for the discerning traveller, who not only
wants to see something new, but to learn something about his or her fellow humans.
There is so much to see and do in Ecuador that one is spoiled for choice, and it is hardly possible to do everything; but I am going to give just a
few of what I believe are the best experiences.
You can visit four different worlds in one trip; swim with dolphins in the magical Galapagos Islands; visit the wide, empty beaches of the Pacific
coast, with every kind of water sports; travel the high sierras; see the world famous diversity of nature in the Amazonas and Oriente provinces,
where fascinating indigenous traditions are preserved – you can even consult a shaman in the mysterious depths of the forest; and enjoy the
fine restaurants and luxury hotels of the cities.
Ecuador is recognised as a paradise for bird watchers, with over 4,000 varieties of birds, many with the most beautiful brightly coloured plumage;
from parrots and hummingbirds to the majestic condor.
Firstly, of course, there is the rightly famous UNESCO World Heritage site of the capital, Quito, perhaps the most perfect example of Spanish
Colonial architecture on the continent. Second only to Quito is the charming city of Cuenca, famous for its historic centre, silver work and the
silver market at Chordeleg, and an area favoured by many American and European expats.
Near Quito looms the magnificent Chimborazo, an active volcano 6000 meters high – you can even hire a bike and coast down the lower slopes
of the mountain! There are many fine “eco-lodges”, in Amazonas province, even in the remote Yasuni region, famous for its extraordinary wildlife
- pumas, jaguars, anacondas and the most extraordinary gallery of brilliantly coloured birds anywhere on the planet. Another option is a canoe
tour from the city of Coca along the Rio Napa to an eco-lodge; further along the river, you can fish for piranha in Lake Panacocha
If you are feeling adventurous, there are many wonderful trips and locations: a train trip through the high Andes, with astonishing scenery from
your carriage window; go to the Peruvian border area, and see the famous Puyango petrified forest; see the butterfly farms and 400 different
species of birds at Mindo – you will be surrounded by a cloud of hummingbirds and butterflies; take a tour from the Lagunas de Atillo to the
highest waterfall in Ecuador, the San Rafael Falls.

en Punta Blanca, cerca de la capital de la provincia de Santa Elena, y si estás allí en la víspera de Año Nuevo, hay hogueras y fiestas en la
playa hasta la madrugada.
Después de un par de días de relax en la playa de Salinas, toma 40 minutos en coche de “Bahía de langosta”, como se llama a veces
Ayangue, donde también se puede participar en una inmersión de buceo organizado. Asegúrese de probar la frescura de los mariscos en
uno de los stands de playa. Puerto López es otro pequeño pueblo cerca de Valdivia, con magníficas playas. Por último, para un viaje de
costa a base, viaja durante 2 horas a la hermosa localidad turística de la ciudad de Manta, y desde Manta se puede volar a Quito, y el hogar.Si usted está en el mundo del surf a lo grande, ya que son muchos los visitantes, usted ha venido al lugar correcto. Además de Montañita,
