  • Qiang Huo, Du Huo, Wei Ling Xian and Fang Ji expel Wind and Dampness and
    remove obstructions from the channels.

  • Dang Gui nourishes Blood and is added according to the principle of nourishing Blood
    in order to extinguish Wind.

  • Gan Cao harmonizes.


Variations


The following variations apply to both prescriptions.



  • If the pain is in the upper part of the body consider adding (or increasing the dosage of)
    one of the following: Qiang Huo Radix et Rhizoma Notopterygii, Bai Zhi Radix
    Angelicae dahuricae, Wei Ling Xian Radix Clematidis chinensis, Jiang Huang Radix
    Curcumae longae or Chuan Xiong Radix Ligustici wallichii.

  • If the pain is in the lower part of the body choose from: Du Huo Radix Angelicae
    pubescentis, Niu Xi Radix Achyrantis bidentatae or Bi Xie Radix Dioscoreae
    hypoglaucae.

  • For pain in the lower back add one or more of the following herbs: Du Zhong Radix
    Eucommiae ulmoidis, Sang Ji Sheng Ramulus Loranthi, Yin Yang Huo Herba Epimedii,
    Ba Ji Tian Radix Morindae or Xu Duan Radix Dipsaci.
