There are four main patterns causing dizziness:


EXCESS TYPE


Liver-Yang, Liver-Fire or Liver-Wind rising
Turbid Phlegm in the head

DEFICIENCY TYPE


Qi and Blood Deficiency
Kidney-Essence Deficiency

Excess Type


Liver-Yang, Liver-Fire or Liver-Wind Rising


Clinical Manifestations


Liver-Yang


Quite severe dizziness, tinnitus, red face, irritability, propensity to outbursts of anger, headache.


Tongue: slightly Red sides.


Pulse: Wiry.


Liver-Fire


Red face, thirst, bitter taste, dry stools, scanty dark urine, Red tongue with dry-yellow coating
and a Rapid-Wiry-Full pulse.


Liver-Wind


More severe dizziness, vertigo and loss of balance, tremors.


Treatment Principle


Subdue Liver-Yang, nourish Liver-Yin or Liver-Blood and Kidney-Yin if
necessary.
Liver-Fire: drain Liver-Fire.
