  • Sheng Di, Shu Di, Shou Wu and Xuan Shen nourish Blood and Yin.

  • Gou Teng, Bai Ji Li and Ling Yang Jiao extinguish Wind.

  • Mu Li nourishes Yin and subdues Wind.

  • Dan Shen and Chi Shao move Blood.

  • Du Zhong tonifies the Kidneys and expels Wind from the spine.


Case History 26.3


Parkinson's Disease: Liver-Yin Deficiency-Male, Age 48


A 48-year-old man had been suffering from Parkinson's disease for 3 years. His main symptoms
were a tremor of the left hand and blurred vision. He also had the typical staring look of
Parkinsonism and his walking was difficult. His tongue was Red with rootless coating and his
pulse was Floating-Empty.


Diagnosis This patient suffered from deficiency of Yin of the Liver with
Liver-Wind. The deficiency of Yin was clearly evident from the Red
tongue with rootless coating and the Floating-Empty pulse.


Treatment principle The principle of treatment was to nourish Liver-Yin, subdue
Liver-Wind and invigorate the Connecting channels. Acupuncture was
mostly used to invigorate the Connecting channels and expel Wind from
the channels, while the herbal treatment was used to nourish Liver-Yin
and subdue Liver-Wind.


Acupuncture The main points used were:


L.I.-11 Quchi, Xiaochanxue, T.B.-5 Waiguan, G.B.-20 Fengchi and
L.I.-10 Shousanli with even method to expel Wind from the channels.

LIV-8 Ququan, SP-6 Sanyinjiao and KI-3 Taixi with reinforcing
method to nourish Liver-Yin.

LIV-3 Taichong with even method to subdue Liver-Wind.
