Ephedra-Prunus-Gypsum-Glycyrrhiza Decoction.
(b)Stomach-Heat: clear Stomach-Heat and promote the descending of
Stomach-Qi with pungent-cold herbs. Examples: Shi Gao Gypsum
fibrosum and Zhi Mu Radix Anemarrhenae asphodeloidis. The
representative formula is Bai Hu Tang White Tiger Decoction.
(c)Stomach and Intestines Dry-Heat: drain Stomach-Fire by purging and
nourish fluids if necessary. Examples: Da Huang Rhizoma Rhei and
Mang Xiao Mirabilitum. The representative formula is one of the three
variations of Cheng Qi Tang Conducting Qi Decoction.
(d)Gall-Bladder Heat: harmonize the Lesser Yang and clear Gall-Bladder
Heat with bitter-cold and pungent-cool herbs. Examples: Chai Hu
Radix Bupleuri and Huang Qin Radix Scutellariae baicalensis. The
representative formula is Hao Qin Qing Dan Tang Artemisia
apiacea-Scutellaria Clearing the Gall-Bladder Decoction and the
Xiao Chai Hu Tang Small Bupleurum Decoction.
(e)Stomach and Spleen Damp-Heat: clear Heat, resolve Dampness,
restore the descending of Stomach-Qi and harmonize the Centre with
bitter-cold herbs to make Qi descend, pungent-cool herbs to open Qi,
fragrantly-resolving Dampness herbs and bland herbs which drain
Dampness. Examples: Huang Lian Rhizoma Coptidis, Zi Su Ye
Folium Perillae frutescentis, Hou Po Cortex Magnoliae officinalis,
Cang Zhu Rhizoma Atractylodis lanceae, Fu Ling Sclerotium Poriae
cocos and Yi Yi Ren Semen Coicis lachryma jobi. The representative
formula is Lian Po Yin Coptis-Magnolia Decoction.

Clinical Manifestations


Aversion to cold, shivering, no fever or very low fever, no sweating, occipital headache, stiff
neck, body-aches, slight cough, runny nose with white discharge, sneezing.


Tongue: no change in the initial stages.


Pulse: Floating-Tight.


This is the classical Greater Yang pattern with prevalence of Cold. The absence of sweating
indicates the prevalence of Cold. This pattern is an Excess pattern occurring in people with a
relatively strong body's Qi.
