Fu Ling Sclerotium Poriae cocos 9 g
Zhi Gan Cao Radix Glycyrrhizae uralensis praeparata 5 g
Sheng Jiang Rhizoma Zingiberis recens 3 g
Wu Mei Fructus Mume one prune
Su Zi Fructus Perillae frutescentis 9 g
Bai Jie Zi Semen Sinapis albae 6 g
Lai Fu Zi Semen Raphani sativi 9 g
Explanation
- The first six herbs compose the Er Chen Tang Two Old Decoction which resolves
Damp-Phlegm. The last three herbs make up the San Zi Yang Qin Tang Three-Seed
Nourishing the Parents Decoction. This decoction was especially formulated for chronic
Damp-Phlegm in the chest in old people (hence its name). Within this prescription, Su
Zi makes Lung-Qi descend and stops cough and breathlessness, Bai Jie Zi is warm and
resolves Cold-Phlegm in the Lungs and Lai Fu Zi is a digestive herb which will help to
resolve Phlegm.
Variations
- In case of severe breathlessness, other herbs which make Lung-Qi descend such as Xing
Ren Semen Pruni armeniacae should be added. - In case of profuse phlegm add Cang Zhu Rhizoma Atractylodis lanceae and Hou Po
Cortex Magnoliae officinalis.
