Deficiency Type
Breathlessness of the Deficiency-type is characterized by Lung and Kidney deficiency since the
Lungs govern Qi and the Kidneys are the root of Qi. The Lungs control exhalation and the
Kidneys inhalation.
In addition to these two organs, the Spleen is often deficient leading to the formation of Phlegm
which obstructs the Lungs. In very chronic cases, Heart-Qi becomes weak since Lung-Qi fails to
move Blood. This also leads to stasis of Blood in the chest manifested with cyanotic lips, chest
pain and purple tongue.
All the Deficiency types of breathlessness correspond to chronic cases.
Lung-Qi Deficiency
Clinical Manifestations
Shortness of breath, weak lung sounds, slight rattling sound in the throat, sweating, chilliness,
pale face, weak voice, expectoration of scanty phlegm.
Tongue: Pale.
Pulse: Weak, especially on the right Front position.
Treatment Principle
Tonify the Lungs, strengthen Qi, restore the descending of Lung-Qi.

LU-7 Lieque, LU-9 Taiyuan, BL-13 Feishu, Du-12 Shenzhu, Ren-12 Zhongwan, Ren-6 Qihai,
ST-36 Zusanli. Reinforcing method.
Explanation
- LU-9 and LU-7 tonify the Lungs and restore the descending of Lung-Qi.
- BL-13 and Du-12 tonify Lung-Qi. Direct moxa can be used.
- Ren-12 and Ren-6 tonify Qi in general and they are also concentration points along the
