- Huang Qi tonifies Lung-Qi and stimulates the Lungs to disperse and descend fluids. It
also opens the Lung's Water passages and resolves oedema. - Fang Ji resolves oedema.
- Xing Ren stimulates the descending of Lung-Qi and relieves breathlessness.
Variations
- In case of Heart-Yang deficiency as well, with Phlegm-Fluids in the Heart leading to
stasis of Blood (purple face, cyanotic lips, dark nails, Purple tongue) add Dan Shen Radix
Salviae miltiorrhizae, Hong Hua Flos Carthami tinctorii, Tao Ren Semen Persicae and
Chuan Xiong Rhizoma Ligustici wallichii.

Explanation
This remedy treats only the Root, i.e. tonifies Kidney-Yang, and not the Manifestation (Water
overflowing to Heart and Lungs).
The tongue presentation appropriate to this remedy is a Pale and wet body.
