every two or three days. Her sleep was not good, waking up frequently during the night. Her
periods lasted 7 to 8 days and she suffered from premenstrual tension. Her pulse was slightly
Weak in the left Rear position and slightly Wiry in the left Middle position. Her tongue was Red
on the sides and tip.
Diagnosis This is again a clear case of Lung and Kidney's Defensive-Qi systems
being deficient from birth. There are, however, other factors and notably
some Liver-Yang rising (red sides of the tongue and premenstrual
tension) and some Kidney-Yin deficiency (constipation, backache and
insomnia).
Treatment principle The principle of treatment was to tonify the Lung and Kidney's
Defensive-Qi systems, nourish Kidney-Yin, restore the descending of
Lung-Qi, expel Wind and subdue Liver-Yang.
Herbal treatment The formula used was a variation of Bai He Gu Jin Tang Lilium

Explanation Bai He and Mai Men Dong nourish Lung-Yin and tonify the Lung's
Defensive-Qi system.
Shu Di tonifies the Kidney's function of grasping Qi.
Dang Gui, Bai Shao and Suan Zao Ren harmonize the Liver, subdue
Liver-Yang and clam the Mind.
Jie Geng, Chuan Bei Mu, Xing Ren and Su Zi restore the descending
of Lung-Qi and clam asthma.
Fang Feng expels Wind.
