and to instil a sense of direction and aim in one's life. This combination is excellent to
treat the mental exhaustion, lack of drive and aimlessness which is typical of chronic
depression.- BL-23 Shenshu, BL-52 Zhishi and BL-49 Yishe to strengthen will-power and drive and
empty the Mind and Intellect of obsessive thoughts, worries and confused thinking. - BL-23 Shenshu, BL-52 Zhishi and BL-42 Pohu to strengthen will-power and drive, settle
the Corporeal Soul and release emotions constrained in the chest and diaphragm. - BL-23 Shenshu, BL-52 Zhishi and BL-44 Shentang to strengthen will-power and drive,
calm the mind and relieve anxiety, depression, mental restlessness and insomnia. This
combination harmonizes Kidneys and Heart (and therefore Will-Power and Mind) on a
mental-emotional level.
If we analyze the names of the above five points, we can detect a pattern as the points
correspond to a house - an image for the pysche - with the Mind, Will-Power and Intellect
corresponding to the hall, room and hut respectively, and the Ethereal Soul and Corporeal Soul
corresponding to a door and window. The images of door and window fit well the nature of the
Ethereal Soul and Corporeal Soul which provide movement to the pysche, the former providing
the "coming and going of the Mind" and the latter the "entering and exiting of the Essence". The
correspondence of the Heart to a hall also fits in with old Chinese customs according to which
the hall is the most important room of the house as it is the one that gives the first impression to
visitors: for this reason, it was always kept scrupulously clean.
Heart Channel
HE-7 Shenmen calms the Mind and nourishes the Heart. It is especially indicated for
mental-emotional problems occurring against a background of deficiency of Heart-Blood or
Heart-Yin.
HE-6 Yinxi calms the Mind: it is especially used in Excess patterns of the Heart with
Empty-Heat. HE-8 Shaofu and HE-9 Shaochong calm the Mind and are used for severe mental
restlessness, anxiety and insomnia from Excess Heart patterns such as Heart-Fire or Heart
Phlegm-Fire.
Pericardium
P-7 Daling calms the Mind especially in Excess patterns. It also resolves Phlegm from the Heart
and is especially indicated for emotional problems from the breaking of relationships.
