This formula is used in preference to the previous one when there is also some stagnation of Qi
giving rise to epigastric or abdominal distension and pain.

Explanation
This remedy tonifies Stomach- and Spleen-Qi, resolves Dampness and stops diarrhoea. It is
therefore particularly used if there is diarrhoea or loose stools. It is more wide-ranging in its
effect than the Liu Jun Zi Wan Six Gentlemen Pill in so far as, besides tonifying Qi, it resolves
Dampness and mildly tonifies Stomach-Yin.
The tongue presentation appropriate to this remedy is a Pale body with a sticky coating which is
possibly rootless in the centre.
