Explanation
This formula tonifies Qi, Yang, Blood and Yin.
- Zhi Gan Cao, Ren Shen and Da Zao tonify Qi.
- Sheng Di Huang and Mai Men Dong nourish Yin.
- E Jiao and Hu Ma Ren nourish Blood.
- Sheng Jiang, Gui Zhi and Rice wine are warm and pungent and invigorate Yang in the
blood vessels. They direct all the other tonics to the blood vessels to regulate the pulse.
For this reason, this prescription is used for an irregular pulse or a pulse with the Knotted
quality (slow and stopping at irregular intervals).

Clinical Manifestations
A feeling of oppression and dull pain in the chest, breathlessness, palpitations, sweating, feeling
cold, cold limbs, bright-pale complexion, cyanosis of lips and nails, tiredness, poor appetite,
insomnia.
Tongue: Pale or Bluish-Purple.
