Shen Fu Tang and You Gui Yin
(Panax-Aconitum Decoction and Restoring the Right [Kidney] Decoction)

Ren Shen Radix Ginseng 9 g

Fu Zi Radix Aconiti carmichaeli praeparata 6 g

Shu Di Huang Radix Rehmanniae glutinosae praeparata 15 g

Shan Zhu Yu Fructus Corni officinalis 3 g

Shan Yao Radix Dioscoreae oppositae 6 g

Du Zhong Cortex Eucommiae ulmoidis 6 g

Rou Gui Cortex Cinnamomi cassiae 3 g

Gou Qi Zi Fructus Lycii chinensis 6 g

Zhi Gan Cao Radix Glycyrrhizae uralensis praeparata 3 g

Explanation

The formula Shen Fu Tang Panax-Aconitum Decoction strongly tonifies and warms the Yang. It
is used for collapse of Yang. The formula You Gui Yin Restoring the Right [Kidney] Decoction
tonifies and warms Kidney-Yang. This is necessary as chronic deficiency of Yang, especially in
old people, nearly always derives from deficiency of Kidney-Yang.

Variations

• If both Yang and Yin are deficient add Mai Men Dong Tuber Ophiopogonis japonici and
  Wu Wei Zi Fructus Schisandrae chinensis.


• If, in addition to Heart and Spleen Yang deficiency, there are also pronounced signs of
  Kidney-Yang deficiency, add one or two of the following herbs: Rou Cong Rong Herba
  Cistanchis, Ba Ji Tian Radix Morindae officinalis, Du Zhong Cortex Eucommiae
  ulmoidis, Xu Duan Radix Dipsaci or Tu Si Zi Semen Cuscutae.


• If the deficiency of Heart-Yang is very severe with very cold hands, cold sweating on the
  forehead and cyanotic lips, face and nails, prevent collapse of Heart-Yang by increasing
  the dosage of Fu Zi Radix Aconiti carmichaeli praeparata and adding the following:

HONG SHEN Radix Ginseng (Red Ginseng) 30 g

LONG GU Os Draconis 30 g

MU LI Concha Ostreae 30 g
