Prescription


Hua Gan Jian and Zuo Jin Wan
(Transforming the Liver Decoction (Variation) and Left Metal Pill)


Chen Pi Pericarpium Citri reticulatae 6 g
Qing Pi Pericarpium Citri reticulatae viridae 4 g
Bai Shao Radix Paeoniae albae 9 g
Mu Dan Pi Cortex Moutan radicis 6 g
Shan Zhi Zi Fructus Gardeniae jasminoidis 6 g
Huang Lian Rhizoma Coptidis 6 g
Wu Zhu Yu Fructus Evodiae rutaecarpae 1.5 g

Explanation



  • Chen Pi and Qing Pi move Qi and eliminate stagnation of Liver-Qi.

  • Bai Shao soothes the Liver and stops pain.

  • Mu Dan Pi and Shan Zhi Zi clear Liver-Fire.

  • Huang Lian, bitter and cold, clears Stomach-Fire.

  • Wu Zhu Yu, a pungent herb, eliminates stagnation and subdues rebellious Qi.


Variations



  • If Heat is beginning to injure Yin add Fu Shou Fructus Citri sarcodactylis and Mei Gui
    Hua Flos Rosae rugosae which move Qi without injuring Yin, as most other moving-Qi
    herbs do.

  • If the epigastric pain is very severe add Yan Hu Suo Rhizoma Corydalis yanhusuo.


Dietary Advice


The patient should avoid eating too many fried foods as well as drinking too much alcohol, and
in terms of eating conditions, avoid getting angry and worrying while eating.
