Deficiency of Qi and Empty-Cold in the Abdomen

Excess Type


Cold in the Intestines


Clinical Manifestations


Intense abdominal pain which is aggravated by pressure and by consuming cold foods and
drinks, and alleviated by application of warmth and drinking warm liquids, no thirst, pale urine,
loose stools or constipation.


Tongue: white-sticky coating.


Pulse: Slippery-Full-Tight.


This is due to Full-Cold in the Intestines obstructing the circulation of Qi and Blood and
therefore causing pain. Normally, the stools would be loose as Cold impairs Spleen-Yang, but in
severe cases Cold may obstruct the descending of Qi of the Intestines causing constipation.


Treatment Principle


Warm the Intestines and Spleen, scatter Cold and stop pain.


Acupuncture


General Prescription


ST-25 Tianshu, SP-15 Daheng, ST-27 Daju, Ren-10 Xiawan, SP-6 Sanyinjiao and ST-36
Zusanli. Reducing or even method. Moxa must be used.


Explanation



  • ST-25, Front-Collecting point of the Large Intestine, with moxa, scatters Cold from the
    Intestines.

  • SP-15 with moxa, scatters Cold and promotes the descending of Qi in the Intestines.

  • ST-27 with moxa, expels Cold from the Intestines and stops pain.

  • Ren-10 promotes the descending of Stomach-Qi.
