- Bai Dou Kou and Wu Zhu Yu warm Spleen and Kidneys.
- Bu Gu Zhi strengthens Kidney-Yang and stops leakage.
- Wu Wei Zi is astringent and stops leakage.
Variations
- If there are pronounced cold symptoms add Fu Zi Radix Aconiti carmichaeli praeparata
and Gan Jiang Rhizoma Zingiberis officinalis. - In an old person with very long-standing diarrhoea and symptoms of sinking Qi add
Huang Qi Radix Astragali membranacei, Dang Shen Radix Codonopsis pilosulae and Bai
Zhu Rhizoma Atractylodis macrocephalae.

Explanation
This remedy tonifies Spleen- and Kidney-Yang and expels internal Cold. It can be used for
chronic diarrhoea from Spleen- and Kidney-Yang deficiency and the tongue presentation is a
very Pale, Swollen and wet tongue body.

Diarrhoea: Kidney-Yang and Kidney-Yin Deficiency-Male, Age 38
A 38-year-old man had been suffering from diarrhoea since he was 16. His stools were always
loose and occasionally like water, and he had up to 8 bowel movements a day, all in the
morning. His sleep was poor as he woke up frequently during the night, feeling his throat dry. He
also suffered from tinnitus and impotence. His pulse was Fine and Deep and his tongue was
slightly Red and Swollen, with the coating slightly peeled in patches.
