This condition can also develop from a deficiency of the Kidneys and Original Qi being unable
to provide Qi to separate clear from turbid in the urinary system.
Fatigue Painful-Urination Syndrome
This is a chronic condition which can develop from any of the other types of Painful-Urination
Syndrome. It is due to deficiency of the Kidneys and its main manifestations are difficulty and
frequency of micturition without much pain, and a feeling of exhaustion. The attacks typically
come in bouts when the person is overtired.
Thus, the six types of Painful-Urination Syndrome could be described in a nutshell as follows:
- Heat Painful-Urination Syndrome: burning on urination
- Stone Painful-Urination Syndrome: urinary stones or sand
- Qi Painful-Urination Syndrome:Full type: hypogastric distension
Empty type: frequency of urination with bearing down feeling - Blood Painful-Urination Syndrome: blood in urine
- Cloudy Painful-Urination Syndrome: cloudy urine
- Fatigue Painful-Urination Syndrome: frequent urination and exhaustion.
From a Western medical perspective Painful-Urination Syndrome may correspond to several
different conditions such as cystitis, urethritis, urinary retention, prostatitis, urinary calculi or TB
of the kidney.
The condition which an acupuncturist or herbalist is most commonly usually called upon to treat
is cystitis. Both acupuncture and herbal medicine, on their own or in combination, give excellent
results in cystitis and there is usually no need to resort to antibiotics.
Any of the types of Painful-Urination Syndrome may be seen in cystitis, but of these, Heat and
