perception and inclination of the victim. Serious parody, no matter how
biting, is more acceptable than that which is irresponsible or libelous.
Parodying well-known images or icons not to satirize the host form
directly, but to make additional commentary is common among graphic
designers. As a graphic design tool parody makes sense only when the
relationship, or visual pun, between the original and the new work is
comprehensible. A successful parody is one that exploits the original style
and character of a work for the purpose of making humorous and insightful
commentary. A good parody makes sense; a bad one, none.
