(a) In the present, referring to future time. Ir a+ infinitive is frequent in speech, and is
preferred for more categoric statements:

They are going to travel to Spain.
Él nos va a ayudar.
He’s going to help us. (definitely)

(b) As the first person plural imperative:
Vamos a comer algo. (see 67.2)

(c) To express intention:

Are you coming (= intending to come) to my wedding?

This has the meaning of spending time doing something.
