38.2 Describing facilities
To ask and say what facilities there are in a place we can use haber (see 38.1.1 above) or
tener. In this context, tener seems to be much more frequent than haber.
Hay dos bares en el hotel.
There are two bars in the hotel.
El hotel tiene dos bares.
The hotel has two bars.
¿Tiene piscina el hotel?
Has the hotel got a swimming pool?
Hay/tiene una piscina muy grande.
There is/it has a very large swimming pool.En todas las habitaciones hay baño.
There is a bathroom in all rooms.
¿Tiene baño la habitación?
Has the room got a bathroom?
Todas las habitaciones tienen baño.

38.3.1 Haber
To ask and say whether something is or is not available, we can use haber (see
38.1 above), for example:
¿Hay alguna habitación con vista al mar?
Is there a room with a seaview?
Lo siento, no hay ninguna.
I’m sorry, there aren’t any.
¿Cuánto dinero hay para nuestros gastos?
How much money is there for our expenses?
Hay trescientos euros.
There’s three hundred euros.
No había nada.
