CRITICAL THINKING QUESTIONS
1.Interview friends and family members who
have experienced a stay in the hospital. Ask
them if they were aware of specific nursing
plans geared to their recovery. See if they were
given goals and taught behaviors to accomplish
them. Was goal attainment evaluated before
they were discharged? Were further goals incor-
porated into their discharge plan? What do
they feel could have been done to help them
attain their health goals? How can you use this
knowledge to help you develop the blended
skills necessary to help patients achieve goals?
2.Reflect on the role that evaluation plays in
promoting your scholastic achievement. Has it
been positive or negative? Think of specific
ways nurses can use evaluation to motivate
patients to achieve healthy goals.

Questioned about her prescribed drug therapy
regimen, the patient says, “I take this one
labeled ‘furosemide’ every day in the morning,
along with this other one labeled ‘Lasix.’”

Mrs. Otsuki’s nursing care plan conducted by
