HTML5 and CSS3, Second Edition

(singke) #1

Part III

Beyond Markup

We’ve talked about HTML5 and CSS3 markup, but
now let’s turn our attention to some of the technolo-
gies and features associated with HTML5. These
features let us communicate across domains and
create solutions that allow our users to work offline.
We can manipulate the browser history, create more
interactive interfaces, and make persistent connec-
tions to servers.

Some of these features were spun off from the
HTML5 specification. Others were never part of the
specification at all, but browser-makers and devel-
opers have associated these with HTML5 because
the specification is being implemented alongside
other features. In either case, they’re valuable tools
that let us build better user experiences.
