scored a lopsided win in
Wayland in week nine and
carried that momentum right
into Bob White Stadium for
the final week of the varsity
football season.
The Trojans concluded
the 2021 campaign with a
53-29 win over visiting
Ottawa Hills to close out a
3-5 season overall with a
3-4 OK Gold Conference
record.
The Trojans took a 13-
lead in the opening quarter,
and then answered the first
Bengal score of the evening
with three more TD’s in the
final nine minutes of the first
half. TK quarterback Carsen
Burbridge fired TD passes of
31 yards to Zack Gibson and
17 yards to Logan Westcott,
then Tyler Gavette scored on
a four-yard run for TK with
2:58 to play in the half.
The teams traded touch-
downs in the second half,
with TK getting a 45-yard
TD run by Jayden Garcia and
a 37-yard TD run by Matthew
Middleton.
The Bengals close the sea-
son at 1-6 in the OK Gold
Conference and 2-7 overall.All six teams that were
credited with wins over the
Trojans this season, non-con-
ference foes Hastings and
Byron Center and Catholic
Central, Cedar Springs,
South Christian and Forest
Hills Eastern from the OK
Gold, earned spots in the
2021 MHSAA football play-offs this fall.

feated regular season Oct. 22with a 55-7 victory over
Kenowa Hills to clinch the
outright OK Gold Conference

Caledonia junior quarter-
back Mason McKenzie used
his arm and his legs to help the
Fighting Scots close out an 8-
regular season with a 26-
OK Red Conference win at
Hudsonville Oct. 22.
The Fighting Scots were
scheduled to host Byron
Center to open the MHSAA
Division 2 state playoffs last
night (Oct. 29). A Caledonia
win last night would mean the
Scots get the chance to host
Mona Shores or Forest Hills
Central in a Division 2 DistrictFinal in the weekend ahead.
Caledonia trailed
Hudsonville 10-7 at the half
and faced deficits of 13-7 in
the third quarter and 19-14 in
the fourth.
McKenzie answered the
Eagles’ third quarter field goal
by Emanuel Dieppa by bust-ing free for a 58-yard TD run
that had the Scots up 14-
with the addition of Connor
Beach’s extra-point kick.
Drew Baine scored on a
22-yard run in the opening
seconds of the fourth quarter
to move his team into a 19-
lead.Moments later, McKenzie
got the ball out to Justice
Reed who took the pass 90
yards for a touchdown and a
20-19 Caledonia advantage.
The Scots tacked on a
45-yard TD run by McKenzie
with 8:31 to play and then
held off the Eagles the rest of
the evening.
Hudsonville had two final
drives in the fourth quarter
stall out just into the Scots’
side of the field. Caledonia’s
Andrew DeVries sacked Eagle
quarterback Tre Carr on a first-
and-10 from the Scots’ 37 with
a little under as minute to play
and teammate Luke
Mandsager recovered to seal
the Scots’ win.
McKenzie finished the
night 11-of-19 passing for 185
yards and a touchdown. He
rushed 14 times for 162 yards.
Back Brock Townsend added
20 rushes for 106 yards for
Caledonia and scored the
game’s first points on a two-
yard run five minutes in. Reed
closed the night with six
receptions for 145 yards.
Caledonia held a 7-0 lead
until a 29-yard field goal by
Dieppa cut into that lead latein the opening quarter.
Hudsonville then tacked on a
five-yard TD pass from Carr
to Jaden Timmer with 2:21 to
play in the second quarter to
move in front 10-7.
Carr was 25-of-47 passing
for 273 yards in the ballgame.
He was intercepted once by
the Scots’ Owen Graham.
On the ground, Baine had a
team-high ten carries for 39
yards for the Eagles. Brad
Rarden had a team-high seven
receptions for 111 yards.
Tyler Burd led the Caledonia
defense with 9.5 tackles.
Mandsager had seven and

Present: Sharon Olson, Alesse
Cross, Dean Bass of the Board of
Trustees and 5 people from the
public. Members absent: Jamie
Knight, Mike Buehler.
Agenda approved.
Reports: Assessor, Hastings,
Freeport, and Thornapple Fire
departments.
Public input: Lorraine Bush
learned at the recent Birch Fire
meeting the Governor provided
a windfall for ambulance services
that covers Medicare/Medicaid
transport for this budget year and
will not need a stipend from the
township this year.
Cemetery update: Bush has
been working with the comput-
er programmer and our Sexton
to get our cemetery records into
an electronic data base. Forbes,
maybe she could help Freeport
who has the same software pro-
gram.
Treasurer Report: received the
confirmation letter regarding the
ARPA funds for our township,
$308,563.00. Forbes: “We will
request matching funds from Ir-
ving and Carlton for Village of
Freeport Water Tower to help off-
set the cost of repairs.”
Commissioner’s report: Smelk-
er, Redistricting meetings are on-
going and are presently working
on the maps. We will be going to
eight commissioners.
Pay Bill: Cross- Motion to
approve the bills of $5,070.00,
seconded by Bass. All in favor,
“Aye.” Roll call – YES Cross,
Bass, Olson. Knight and Buehler
absent.
Bush, Eric Mahler Remolding
has completed the removal of the
old railing and installed the new.
