TOOLS FOR LEADING TEAMS

AND GROUPS

More and more work is being done in groups and teams, because:

✔ Organizations and technology are becoming more complex.
Gone are the days when a General Manager could know
everything about a work area. To get the job done today, lead-
ers need to be skilled at marshaling complementary skills
from a wide range of professions and professionals.
✔ Stakeholder systems are becoming more complex, and more
people are requiring input into decisions in return for their
support.
✔ Commitment, as opposed to compliance, is needed in knowl-
edge-based organizations. Committed people generate higher-
quality and more innovative products and services. However,
commitment isn’t automatic. It’s an outcome of effective lead-
ership, and is enhanced by involving, informing, and encour-
aging people to influence decisions within their workgroups
or teams.

It is essential for a leader to be able to lead workgroups and
teams.
