RASCI: A PLANNING TOOL
FOR WORKGROUPS AND TEAMS
Inspired by Richard Beckhard and Reubin Harris.
A RASCI chart helps leaders organize and manage complex projects involving a range of stake-
holders. It provides a clear picture of what will be done, by whom, by when, and with what
support. Look at the words in the RASCI acronym and their meanings. Then, tailor this type
of control or communications chart by adding, deleting, or modifying terms to fit the unique
circumstances of your project or team situation.
R= Responsible (Who is ultimately responsible for this action or result?)
A= Approval or Authority (Who needs to make the final decision?)
S= Support or Stakeholder (Whose commitment is needed for success?)
C= Consult (Who needs to be consulted for their knowledge, ideas, or input? Note that
this is different from obtaining approval or support).
I= Inform (Who needs to be informed before action is taken?)
These partial examples will help you understand how a RASCI chart is used.
Goal:To provide training to all users of the new XYZ system.
