Clothes and Costuming
Every man must have a suit in his wardrobe. This manga male is wearing a typical
two-piece suit and loafers. Note how the creases on each leg are clearly indicated,
and how the jacket goes in at the waist to give a tailored look. The outfit is finished
off with a folded handkerchief in the breast pocket.
SMART SUIT
Draw a basic figure using lines
for bones, circles for joints, and
triangles for pelvis and feet.
Give him some hair. Add the
top of a jacket, to waist level,
then draw in the lapels. Add a
collar and tie.
Next add trousers and
shoes. Then finish off
the figure’s arms by
adding hands.
Add sleeves from the shoul-
ders, down over the elbow
joints. Add the rest of the
jacket over the pelvis. Include
patch pockets and a single but-
ton. Indicate creasing around
the waist.
Refine the lines of the
collar and tie, then
shade the tie. Add a
handkerchief in the top
pocket.
Ink all the main lines of
your suit, shirt and tie,
and shoes. Also ink the
lines of the creases in the
jacket and trousers.
