Department Chair Position
With the rapid revitalization of Detroit, Wayne State University
(WSU) is undergoing significant growth in its research enterprise.
The Department of Physiology at WSU School of Medicine (SOM)
(http://physiology.med.wayne.edu) invites applications for the De-
partment Chair. We seek candidates that employ molecular, cellular
or systems approaches to explore research interests in cardiovascular,
metabolic, respiratory and other areas of physiology, pathophysiology
and biophysics. WSU SOM is a state-of-the-art research environment,
rated in the top third of all US Research Institutions by the Carnegie
Foundation. The Department of Physiology has one of the most active
research programs among the basic science departments at WSU-SOM
and is presently ranked #35 out of ~120 Departments of Physiology in
the USA. Start-up package and salary are highly competitive.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent from a relevant
area. The Chair will have the vision and experience to lead a major
urban academic Department of Physiology.

Deputy Director,
National Institute on Aging (NIA), NIH

The Deputy Director position at the National Institute on
Aging (NIA)offers an exciting opportunity to serve as the
second-in-command to the NIA Director in the scientific
and managerial leadership of the Institute. The NIA, one of
the 27 Institutes and Centers of NIH, leads broad scientific
and research efforts to understand the nature of aging, aging
processes, diseases and conditions associated with the nature of
aging and extending healthy active years of life. The NIA is the
primary federal agency responsible for research on Alzheimer’s
disease and related dementias.

Qualifications: a M.D. and/or Ph.D.; senior-level research
experience and knowledge of research programs in one or
more scientific areas related to aging research; and recognition
and respect within their profession, both nationally and
internationally, as individuals of outstanding scientific
competence.

In addition, candidates must have demonstrated ability in: 1)
planning, implementing, and analyzing program objectives and
priorities, 2) managingfinancial and human resources, and 3)
leading a research program involving extensive internal and
external collaboration.
