important ideas presented in this unit is that preparation for exams
begins when students first take notes or read the first chapter on a
topic. Exam preparation should not begin when an instructor
announces an exam! The manner in which one takes notes and reads
textbooks determines how much information is learned and remem-
bered. Therefore, the more content one understands and remembers
while moving from one topic to another in a course, the easier it is
to prepare and perform successfully on an exam.
