3.7.1 Management of acute dental problems
The management of acute problems present at the time of the child's first visit is
undoubtedly a priority. However it is important that any treatment that is provided sits
well in the context of a holistic treatment plan and does not jeopardize its completion.
In most cases, therefore, pain relief should be provided without recourse to extraction.
3.7.2 Prevention
Any treatment plan relies for its support on a 'spine' of prevention (Chapter 6).
