FEATURE MACOS MONTEREY SUPERGUIDE
SAFARI
In the initial phases of
Monterey’s development,
Safari on the Mac originally
got a user interface facelift to
support its new tab-focused
features. The tab bar took on
the color of the site you were
reading and the toolbar was
more compact, with the
buttons that surrounded
it—Home, Share, Privacy
Report, Show Downloads—
collected in a menu to the
right of the address bar.
But users weren’t happy and Apple now
offers two settings in Safari Preferences for
the tab bar, a Separate setting that’s similar
to the traditional tab bar (fave. co/3wdJWiM),
and a new Compact version that condenses
everything down into a single bar.
The new Tab Groups feature allows you
to save a set of tabs so you can access them
later. Your Tab Groups are available on all the
Macs you use and are also updated across
all of your Apple devices. And Safari keeps
an eye on each tab to prevent sites from
using up your system resources when you’re
not actively using a specific tab.
AIRPLAY TO MAC
With AirPlay to Mac, you can now take the
media from your iPhone and iPad and use
AirPlay to stream on your Mac. You can
also stream from an app; for example, you
can draw using your iPad, and use AirPlay
to stream your activity onto a Mac so
others can watch. AirPlay to Mac works
wirelessly or over a USB connection.
Here are the devices that are compatible
with AirPlay to Mac:
> 2018 and later MacBook Pro
> 2018 and later MacBook Air
> 2019 and later iMac
> iMac Pro
> 2020 and later Mac mini
> 2019 and later Mac Pro
> iPhone 7 and later

> 3rd generation and later iPad Air
