P

okémon games are often released in pairs, and it’s happening again this
month. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl will be
available for the Nintendo Switch on November 19.
Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are remakes of the Nintendo
DS games Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl from 2007. The new
versions include advanced 3D graphics, bigger stages to explore,
new pokémon animations, and new character customizations.
Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are very similar to each
other, but each has some exclusive pokémon.
In both games, you begin as a rookie pokémon trainer in
the Sinnoh region. Professor Rowan, a pokémon expert, and
his assistant act as your guides. You’re given one pokémon to

start and can choose from Turtwig (a turtle-type creature), Chimchar (a chimp
with a fl aming tail), or Piplup (a penguin-like creature with water powers).
As in many other Pokémon games, the goal is to travel around catching
and training pokémon. The games are fi lled with special items that can
help you out. As your team grows and your pokémon get stronger, you
can visit diff erent gyms. Once you beat all eight gym leaders, you
can head up to Mount Coronet and fi ght the Elite Four. If you
defeat them all, you become a Pokémon Master.
It’s a fun journey, but watch out for members of evil Team
Galactic. They steal pokémon and make them commit crimes.
In Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, it’s up to gamers to stop
them. This leads to some epic battles with very high stakes.

RETRO BOWL
Apple App Store, Google Play
Kick it old-school with a football game that
looks like it was created in the 1980s. Don’t be
fooled by the old-fashioned graphics, though.
Retro Bowl also has many of the franchise and
career mode features that are found in modern
football video games.
