guided reading n
a teacher-directed mode of reading instruction in which the teacher directs
the purpose, structure, and response to a reading activity, leading the readers
through the reading of a text. This approach can be used to model reading
behaviours and strategies.
guided writing n
a technique for teaching writing where the teacher provides detailed guid-
ance in the form of questions, an outline, a model, or some other way of
focusing and directing the students’ writing. Guided writing seeks to reduce
the number of student errors and to provide a specific focus on some aspect
of either the form or content of a piece of writing or both.
