the occurrence of a linguistic form to the left of its normal position in a
sentence. For example in the sentence:
Madge made the pizza.
pizzais in its normal object position in the sentence. But in the less common
sentence:
The pizza, Madge made it.
the pizzais now a left dislocation. Left dislocation is a word orderdevice
which is often used to signal a new topic (topic^2 ) or to give special emphasis.
With right dislocation, a linguistic form appears to the right of its normal
position. For example:
She made the pizza, Madge did.
