Muhammad: Victory and Death
appears that Muhammad was accused of having divided the spoils of war
unjustly (9:58), and some of the Ansar were no doubt discouraged when
they saw the spoils of the Banu Nadir and Hunayn divided among the
others (cf. the admonition of 59:9). Muhammad was commanded not to
obey either unbelievers or hypocrites (33:47), and for a time he was
allowed to marry many women (33:49f). He was later forbidden to increase
the number of his wives (33:52). Muhammad's earlier and later sins are said
to have been forgiven (48:2), and he was commanded to pray for
forgiveness (110:1f). The Shechinah is said to have been sent down on
Muhammad (48:26; 9:26).
