Define the details
For any wedding, it’s important
to ask the couple if there
are particular shots they would like.
Request a schedule of the day so
you’re aware of timings, and make
a rough shot list so that you can
tick images off as you get them.
(This will alleviate the pressure
as you go through the day.) Make
sure you and the couple agree on
what you’re covering in advance.
Do they want shots of the bride and
groom getting ready? Are you covering
the wedding in a relaxed way as the day
unfolds? Are you covering the evening,
too? You should also give the couple
a rough timescale of when to expect
their pictures, and let them know that
the editing process can take some time.

Dress the part
What you wear to photograph a wedding
is personal choice, but it’s best to
strike a balance between looking smart
(as any guest would) and feeling
comfortable when shooting. I went
for practicality, wearing a plain
black dress with pockets when
photographing the day, plus
run-around footwear so I could
be agile. To get into the wedding
spirit, I did change in the evening.
