Recover highlight detail
Duplicate the Background Layer
by pressing Ctrl/Cmd+J. Then go to
Image > Adjustments >Shadows/
Highlights and when the dialogue box opens,
make sure Show More Options is checked. Next,
make sure Shadows Amount is set to Zero, then
set Highlight Amount to 25%, Tone to 15% and
Radius to 5px. The key is for the sliders to take
on the shape of a forward slash. Make sure
Color and Midtone are both set to +20.

Add mood to the sky
Click the Create New Fill Or
Adjustment Layer icon and select
Curves. When the dialog box opens,
click on the centre of the curve, then drag down
and to the right to darken. Drag the bottom-
right corner to the right so Input says 20, and
close the dialog box. Now press I to invert the
Layer Mask, then Press D and make sure white
is the foreground colour. Select the Gradient
Tool and draw a short line over the horizon.

Warm up the scene
Here you will simply warm up the
scene, rather than accentuating the
existing sunset colour, as you did in
the previous technique. Click the Create New
Fill Or Adjustment Layer icon and select Photo
Filter from the list of options; when the dialog
box opens, select Warming Filter (LBA). Set
Density to 30% and close the dialog box.
If you prefer a weaker or stronger effect,
simply set Density accordingly.
