Possessives 972 POSSESSIVE PRONOUNSa In conjunction with indefinites such as on, chacun, personne, the possessive pronouns le/la
sien(ne), les sien(ne)sare used, and not the forms le/la/les leur(s).
e.g. Chacun avait apporté les siennes
b Les siensmay have the special meaning of ‘one’s family’, whilst des nôtresmay mean ‘with us’.
e.g. Il n’était pas des nôtres‘He wasn’t with us’.c Note that the pronouns le/la nôtreand le/la vôtreare written with a circumflex accent. This
distinguishes them from the possessive adjectives, notre, votre. Note also the plural form of the
pronouns, les nôtres, les vôtresas compared to the plural form of the adjectives, nos, vos.
