itiescareer aspirations and, later,encouraged his wife to pursu,attendedeehveryer
one of his grandsons’ events that he could.He also attended countless family vacations,
watching family members engage in activi-ties that he was sometimes less than enthu-
siastic ofallowed him to spend quality time with his,like skiing, but being present
family.
Although he never returned to live in Guyana,he was the consummate native son. His
commitment to the people of Guyana andthe diasporawere unrivaled. He wasaparty
member and supporter of theple’sAlliance as he fought tirelessly for theWorking Peo-
unity of the workinthe diaspora. InWagpshington, DCeople in Guyana and,hewas
the co-founder of the Caribbean PoliticalAction Committee andamember of the
Mayor’CaribbeasCnAommission on African andffairs and Caribbean American
Inter Cultural Organization. He also providedfinancial support to several other Caribbean
organizations andof Guyana. astudent at the University
Denys was predeceased by his parents andwife.Heissurvived by his siblings,children,
son-in-lawnephews.H,geismrandchildren,issed immensely.nieces and
OfDENYWashington, DCSVAUGHN-COOKE (Age 78),passed away on March
10, 2020.
Denys was born on October 23, 1941 inGeorgetown, Guyana. Asachild, he attend-
ed the country’Queen’sCollege,wsphere he excelled aca-remier boys’ school,
demically and made life-long friends.He
playedsiblings,assisting his siblings throughout theapivotal role as the eldest of seven
yearshe immigrated to the United States and,without question. In his early twenties
worked asand Master’ataxi driver to obtain Bachelor’ssdegrees in economics.Asan
academician, he worked asconsultant. As an intellectual, he wroteaprofessor and
countless articles and was nationally recog-nized for his paperaddressing the economic
status in Black America.
His ability to connect with people and navi-gateWashington, DC allowed him to culti-
