There is an old story that illustrates the way in which a visionary,
charismatic, and architectural leader can inspire everyone in an organi-
zation. There were once three bricklayers who were asked what they
were doing. The fi rst bricklayer said, ‘ I am laying bricks. ’ The second
said, ‘ I ’ m working to feed and house my family. ’ But the third said, ‘ I
am building a cathedral ’ — which goes to show that we all have the
capacity to wake our inner Alexander.
