Lightroom’s extended features and effects are

probably some of the best you’ll come across

in the design and editing software world. Our

example here shows just what can be done

and as we’ve seen with the other elements

of Lightroom, these effects can be applied

relatively easily.

Here’s an example image that is in need of a little creative makeover. Film grain can

look great on the right kind of image, giving a nice gritty journalistic look to high-

contrast black and white images. In this case, it’s a fairly simple transformation. We

just converted the image to monochrome, reduced the exposure and boosted the

contrast a bit, and then added the film grain effect from the Effects panel. The result

is a great study in texture and contrast.
