“The Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer, came into the line of fire a little
more readily from about April onwards. This one marked his first year
in charge of the opposition, during which time he really had gone from
hero to zero. I do enjoy drawing him.”
09.04 Promises, promises
“There had been rioting in Northern Ireland over the Brexit deal,
and specifically the Northern Ireland protocol, that had included the
hijacking and burning of a bus. Brandon Lewis, the Northern Ireland
secretary, had conceded the deal had angered many unionists, and
the events gave me the opportunity to draw Johnson in another light- this time fleeing his Brexit bus.”
