If Michaela Coel, Issa Rae and Phoebe Waller-Bridge had
a love child, she would surely be Nicôle Lecky, the writer,
producer and star of BBC3’s upcoming Superhoe, which is
already one of 2022’s most-hyped shows. The project
started life in 2019, Fleabag-style, as a one-woman show at
the Royal Court Theatre, where it caught the eye of BBC
bigwigs and was swiftly snapped up for TV. The six-part
contemporary drama follows Lecky’s feisty Sasha, a
25-year-old aspiring singer/rapper — Lecky also wrote
and choreographed the show’s dreamlike song and dance
numbers — who finds herself sucked into the murky
world of online sex work. Provocative, affecting and
bloody funny to boot, the show “looks at female
empowerment versus exploitation, hidden homelessness
in young people, social media and loneliness, and mental
health”, the London-born Lecky has revealed. The
31-year-old, who has previously penned episodes of
EastEnders and had small roles in Sense8 and Fresh Meat,
isn’t one to let the grass grow under her feet either —
she’s also busy writing a musical. OG

If there was ever a year to take off on TikTok, it was 2021
— especially for 28-year-old Hayley Morris. Forced to
leave her dream job in Florida and return home to the Isle
of White as a result of the pandemic, Morris is now
known for her videos in which she acts out the irrational
arguments we have with ourselves every day, and has
racked up 2.4 million followers on TikTok and 1.1 million
on Instagram. Not bad for some videos filmed in her
bedroom. On top of that she
has her own line of merch,
thousands of loyal fans and
won Content Creator of
the Year at the 2021 Funny
Women awards and
TikTok of the Year at the
Blogosphere awards. Next
year is set to be even bigger,
with Morris working on a
series of shorts for YouTube,
expanding her clothing
collection and working on
top-secret projects across
audio and TV. Roisin Kelly
