ou won’t see many monitors like the
LG UltraWide Ergo 34WN780. It
comes with an offset arm mount that
is the star of the show. It clamps to
yourdesk and lookslikethe screen is defyingthe
laws of gravity. But it brings with it stacks of
screen position flexibility.
Straightout of the box – it needstwo tomake
sure it doesn’tget damaged – it impresses in
terms of bothits heft and its finish. And this is
when you will notice the armmount. Some users
will prefer a more traditionalstand approach, but
the mount design is well worth considering. As
wellas the flexibility, it takesup a minimal
amount of room on the actual desk itself.
Keeping it company there’s some basic cable
management built in, plus a good varietyof ports
around the back of the screen. Youget twoHDMI
ports,one DisplayPort socket, one USB-B
upstream port and two USB-A downstreamports
(so you canuse the monitor as a sort of USB hub if
you needto). at’s plenty of connectivity for
yourvarious computers, consoles,media
streamers and other devices,and there’s a
headphone port too if you needit.
Setup is perfectly straightforward, though as
we mentioned you’reprobably going to wantto
get a bit of helpto get this monitor inposition.

WE’RE IMPRESSED Large size,
sharp resolution; great build
quality; versatile arm mount.
WE’D IMPROVE Not top-level
specs; no support for USB-C.
THE LAST WORD A decent
display in an unusual form factor
that will appeal to plenty of
people. It’snot quite the bestin
class in termsof picture or specs,
but it still has a lot goingfor it
if you can find it for a sensible
price on theweb.

a native resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels – that’s a
21:9 aspect ratio. is means you can comfortably
get twoapplications running side by side, which
is perfectfor productivity. Tech specs includes
supportfor HDR 10 , 300nits brightness, a
response time of5ms, a refreshrate of 75Hz, and
viewing angles up to 178degrees.
ese are veryrespectable specs for the price
- they can bebeaten, but you’llneed to paymore.
What you do get, though, is a screen experience
that looks sharp, colourful and lag-free. We
tested the LG UltraWide Ergo with a variety of
Windows applications as wellas some games,
and the monitor passed with flying colours.
Whilededicated gamers are going to want
something geared a little more inthatdirection,
this is a reallygoodall-rounder that’llhandle
games as well ascreative software.
Elsewhere, there are integrated stereo
speakers – not always a given on a monitor,and
while they’reunderwhelming in terms oftheir
sound quality, they save youhaving to installa
separate set of speakers when you’re using this
monitor.Weshould also mention the dedicated
Reader Mode, which reducesthe amount of blue
light emitted by the screen and givesyoureyes an
easier ride later on inthe evening.
Deciding whether it’s the upgrade you wantis
all about that arm mount –if you wanta screen
that’s a goodall-rounder and you canmanipulate
in just about anydirection and move out of the
way whenneeded, then this is one of the best
options out there.
